Valentines....

It's a night where all the restaurants are booked in advanced and all the menus are tailored for couples. It's a day where all the red roses quadruple in price. It's a week where the world gets painted red. A month where the letterbox is crammed full of glossy catalogues from jewellery shops enticing us to buy our loved ones shinny new bling.

It's a day.... I look forward too.

Not because of the flowers, the expensive dinner and the shower of gifts but because my Valentine Kae, does Kae things.

My most favourite memory is the time my Valentine decided to surprise me with flowers, which is a HUGE deal as I can count the number of times he's bought me flowers with one hand. It could have something to do with the first flower he bought me, my Dad commented nicely that the money may have been better spent on flowers in a pot or better yet, seeds - the gift that keeps on giving.

Anyway back to the surprise...

My Valentine goes to the florist and chooses a single red rose and stands in line to pay. In front of him is a man holding a bouquet of red roses. When it's time to pay the cashier tells the man the bouquet costs $75.00. The man hesitates and points to one single rose and asks how much that is instead. The cashier replies, "$20" and the man purchases the single rose. And there Kae is in line holding his single red rose and as he hears the price he quickly puts down the rose, turns around and leaves the shop in disbelief of how much one flower costs.

So my Valentine turns up for our date, no dinner reservation, no gifts, no flowers but a funny story. Priceless!!

Chinese New Year Eve

Tonight is Chinese New Year Eve. Traditionally it's a day where Chinese families gather for their Reunion Dinner - a feast of chicken, pork and fish. We were missing the pork, the fish and the family, but the chicken showed up.

The Diva - Satay sauce base covered with cheese, marinated chicken breast, sliced avocado, chopped cashews and freshly cut coriander.
